Job Summary:

The Human Resources Director assumes the role of Lead HR Business Partner for the West Region. This key member of the leadership team is responsible for setting direction, embracing, and incorporating the Human Resources strategy for approximately 2,000 union and non-union employees across multiple states within the West Region. This role will provide expertise, advice, and guidance to business leaders in order to ensure the consistent application of workplace policies and procedures, and compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations. The HR Director will implement proactive solutions to ensure positive employee relations, increase employee engagement, and avoid or mitigate labor disputes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President Human Resources and regional business leaders to create a high performing culture across the Region, focused on open communication, maximizing talent, and driving high levels of service to internal and external customers.
  • Develop and implement effective recruitment, performance, and talent management strategies to ensure the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop proactive and positive labor relations strategies and initiatives that drive business objectives and improve the employee experience. Anticipate and influence operational decisions that potentially impact the employee experience or could increase the likelihood of labor disruption.
  • Effectively investigate problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee complaints and grievances.
  • Provide advice and consultation on complex employee relations matters. Lead managers and supervisors through employee counseling and corrective action; advise management of the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with labor organizations that represent employees.
  • Leverage metrics and data to help identify employee relations and organizational effectiveness trends and collaborate with other functional teams to assist in the development of action plans, training, processes, and tools to address problems, increase employee engagement, and reduce employee relations risks.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal labor policies, rules, regulations, and laws; stay current on legal, regulatory, and policy developments affecting areas of responsibility and communicate effectively with all involved parties.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration plus 10 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in developing employee engagement strategies and managing labor relations (administering collective bargaining agreements and participating in union organizing campaigns) at multi-state employers with geographically diverse frontline employee populations.
  • Expertise in employment law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to varied audiences, including executives, local management, and front-line employees.
