Month of May
May is designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It is a time to mark the many contributions and achievements of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including our current Vice President, Kamala Harris.
The month of May was chosen to commemorate two important events. In May 1843, the first Japanese immigrant was recorded as arriving in the United States. And on May 10, 1869, the transcontinental railroad was completed, which could not have been accomplished without the labor of Chinese workers.
