Spotlight: Providence House

April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is also the focus for this month’s Blue Rock Gives Back charity spotlight. Providence House works to support families through times of crisis, offering the support and resources they need to get back on their feet and avoid tragic and traumatic outcomes.

Brad Grieco, Director of Executive Search at Blue Rock Search, said, “The charity that is most important to me is Providence House. Providence House is a crisis nursery committed to child abuse prevention and family preservation in the Cleveland area.”

Founded in 1989, Providence House is one of the oldest crisis nurseries in the United States. The organization offers free, voluntary (non-custodial) 24/7 emergency shelter to children, aged newborn through twelve years old, who are at risk of abuse and neglect in their current living situations. Children staying at Providence House receive evidence-based assessments, therapies, daily activities, and individual nurturing to support their developmental, social-emotional, medical, and educational enrichment.

Providence House isn’t just about caring for the children staying in their facilities at a given moment. The goal is to ensure healthy family lives, especially for at-risk children and families. Providence House offers a variety of support services, including parent education, therapies and interventions, mentoring, and much more. The team also partners with other community members and organizations to conduct outreach, advocate for underserved families, offer preventative support, and promote family health and stability.

Last year, Providence House supported 323 children from 167 families. 96% of these families live at or below the federal poverty line: 40% had a caregiver who lacked resources to meet basic needs, and 32% were homeless or had unsafe housing. Other children and families served were dealing with physical or mental health crises, witnessing violence, or other difficult situations. With the help of generous donors and dedicated volunteers, the team at Providence House has been able to offer the care and support families need. 99% of children served were reunited with their parent or guardian, and 68% of high-risk parents who received intensive family support services reported their family stability increased.

Blue Rock is proud to highlight and support the incredible work of Providence House!
