Senior Quality Leader

Blue Rock search is partnered with Subway Canada to identify their next Senior Quality Leader.  The FSQA Leader is responsible for technical management of food ingredient suppliers for Subway Canada including: approving new suppliers/plants, development and monitoring of product specifications, continuous product and supplier performance verification (complaints, incidents, etc.).  Supports the Culinary team with new product development by providing guidance on food safety and quality aspects, serving as the reference for cross-functional teams. Lead existent product development projects such as product match, onboarding new plants/suppliers and cost saving initiatives, working closely with IPC, Culinary and Marketing teams. Oversees manufacturing commercialization and all aspects related to the local suppliers.  In addition to ensuring compliance to Subway standards, this role also provides ongoing Quality and Food Safety guidance to the cross functional teams to ensure understanding of FSQA guidelines. Must be flexible and creative to meet the business needs and exercise forward-thinking problem-solving skills, collaborating with the local team as a leader in positive culture to deliver quality results and to protect our guests and brand.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the purchasing team and suppliers to identify and/or develop product and process to meet company objectives and regulatory requirements, including product improvement, cost savings and risk mitigation initiatives. Lead the Supplier Approval process for FSQA in Canada.
  • Build and maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with the local suppliers, proactively organizing business reviews and periodic category meetings. Provide guidelines and direction for product and process development and improvement.
  • Coordinate the commercialization of all new and existing ingredients/menu items for operational/market testing, LTO and national launches in Canada. Develop and manage project, engaging cross functional partners and suppliers, developing specifications and approving products.
  • Monitor supplier performance on key product attributes and drive for continuous improvement, including: complaints, incidents, product evaluations, field feedback, etc.
  • Evaluate the quality of existing products and manage supplier performance, investigating and following up on root cause analysis and CAPA for quality issues and determine product disposition.
  • Participate on FSQA local organizations, build external networks, and implement best practices within the Subway supply chain. Represent Subway on the events, meetings and other forums.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Safety, or related field (Master’s is a plus)
  • 5+ years’ experience on quality assurance management, preferably with a restaurant brand and/or food manufacturer
  • Experience with food safety and quality subjects, as well as product categories (bread, protein, cheese, sauces would be a plus)
  • Organizational agility and ability of developing working relationships with the different internal/external agents
  • Dependability and ability to prioritize in order to support multiple project timelines and stage gates effectively
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills to make information accessible to different audiences and to influence decisions within the organization using consistent data/analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with different levels of the organization.  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
