For nearly seven decades and counting, the Cancer Research Institute has been a leader in cancer research, supporting life-saving research and treatments as the science evolves. Unlike many other cancer treatment and research institutions, CRI focuses on immunotherapy as it searches for breakthroughs to cure all types of cancer.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CRI funds thousands of scientists around the world, supporting research, education, scientific conferences, and clinical trials dedicated to immunotherapy cancer treatments. As opposed to other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or surgery, immunotherapy is designed to use the power of the body’s own immune system to target cancer cells, avoid destroying healthy ones, and adapt to address how cancer itself evolves. Over 3,400 scientists from around the world are supported by funding from CRI, which awarded over $28 million in grants in 2021.
Along with funding groundbreaking research and supporting clinical trials (over 120 trials and counting!), CRI functions as a source of information and community. The organization provides constant updates on the latest news in cancer treatment and immunotherapy, organizes a number of events for raising funds and awareness, and works to connect people with other patients and advocates.
With immunotherapy continually expanding its frontiers of cutting-edge research, CRI is at the forefront, supporting scientists at many of the world’s top facilities focused on immunology and immunotherapy. CRI pursues a variety of partnerships to tackle the cancer fight from all angles. They seek out collaborations with biotech and pharmaceutical companies that are working on promising immunotherapies, collaborate with cancer charities, fund scientific research and support up-and-coming talent, and educating patients, caregivers, and advocates about the possibilities of immunotherapy. Put together, CRI’s work is intended to support the development of immunotherapies that can improve the overall approach to fighting cancer.
Blue Rock is proud to highlight and support the incredible work of the Cancer Research Institute as part of our Blue Rock Gives Back Program. The Blue Rock Gives Back Program lets our employees choose a cause that is personally important to them. Each month, we select one of those charities and make a donation in their name. The Cancer Research Institute was chosen by Katie Timmons, Director of Recruiting Operations.
“Cancer is extremely common in my family,” said Katie. “I’ve lost close friends and family members to this disease, and unfortunately, I recognize that this is not uncommon.” By supporting the Cancer Research Institute, she hopes, fewer families will have to go through these devastating losses.
